Since the story is the main foundation of thinking and communication, it is considered as one of the key tools for cultivating critical thinking. Accordingly, in this study, after first explaining the components of critical thinking and introducing the criteria for evaluating stories, we used the thematic analysis method to review and evaluate 30 adolescent stories in the age group of 12 to 15 years, related to the years 2011–2019, in the three categories of formal, elitist, and bestsellers, whether authored or translated, so that we could identify stories that have intellectual content and those that have a capacity to strengthen critical thinking. The criteria used as the basis of analysis and evaluation included questioning, reasoning, documented judging, analysis, problem-solving, identification, philosophical theme, ethical exploration, and purposeful dialogue. These are drawn from the views of experts in the field of critical thinking, such as Chet Myers, Robert Fisher, Robert Ennis, Richard Paul, and Peter Facione. The results of the study show that only 40% of the stories in the elitist and bestsellers categories and 10% of the stories in the formal category have intellectual content and the capacity to strengthen critical thinking.
